Oahu Utilities
Electricity is furnished through Hawaiian Electric (548-7311); propane gas through Gasco/BHP Gas Company (526-0066); water through the
Honolulu City & County Board of Water Supply (527-6184). These utilities require a deposit in advance, but they may waive the deposit
if you bring a letter from your previous utility company indicating that you were a customer in good standing.
Local and interisland telephone service can be obtained through GTE Hawaiian Tel (643-3456). Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) can
be reached by dialing 1-711 for text telephone and 1-511 to reach TTY users. There are also four GTE Hawaiian Tel phone marts on the
island.
For mainland U.S. and international calls, you may choose from several long distance providers. Call your previous carrier or consult
the Equal Access information in the front of the O`ahu phone directory white pages. GST Telecom (682-5266) provides interisland,
interstate and internet services. International and 800 service starts in early 1997.
Cellular phone and related communications services may be obtained from GTE Mobilnet (532-1200), Honolulu Cellular (623-CELL), and
VoiceStream Wireless (1-888-STREAMS).
Cable television is provided by three different companies: Cable TV Service can be found on Hickam Air Force Base only (422-2711);
Oceanic Cable (625-8100) services the remainder of the island.
